beam type torque wrenches are a necessity when rebuilding components that are shaft driven and require bearing preloads — input shafts for hydraulic pumps, differentials, steering boxes for a few examples. measuring the rotational force it takes to drive something is a step often overlooked but is an invaluable test if you want to verify operation before putting in service. the only problem with these is the calibration is not really adjustable and over time they become unreliable. definitely a must have if you’re doing real precision work, though. i would love to have one of these.
